Privacy Policy

Privacy comes first. We do not sell your identity. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your individual responses with organizations, advertisers, researchers, political organizations, or data brokers. Organizations receive privacy-protected, aggregated and de-identified Community Intelligence — never your identity or your individual responses.

Analytics begins at launch. Kura-Tu collects usage analytics from the moment the app opens, before you reach the consent screen, and there is currently no in-app switch to turn it off. We are telling you plainly rather than burying it. Analytics records how the app is used; it does not record the content of your contributions.
2. Why we collect it
- To sign you in and keep your account yours.
- To match you to the right places and races — your polling location and the contests on your own districts.
- To protect the integrity of Community Intelligence, by confirming that contributors are real, registered participants.
- To build Community Intelligence, by aggregating contributions into the Live Community Intelligence Dashboard.
- To keep the app working, through crash reporting and diagnostics.
We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not use your information to target political messaging at you.
3. Your voter registration information
Verification happens against your own state’s official voter lookup. Kura-Tu confirms that a registration exists and matches you. We do not sell or share your voter registration information, and we do not publish it.
Where your state requires a screenshot of the lookup result, that image is used to complete verification and is retained only as described in section 5.
4. What we share, and what we never share

- Your individual responses, shared with organizations, advertisers, researchers, political organizations, or data brokers.
Service providers
We use a small number of processors to run the Network: cloud database and storage hosting, authentication, push notification delivery, crash reporting and analytics, and mapping. They process information on our instructions to operate Kura-Tu, not for their own purposes.
Aggregated Community Intelligence
What organizations and the public see is aggregated and de-identified — counts, proportions and conditions across many contributors. It is designed so that no single contributor can be picked out of it.
Legal
We may disclose information where the law requires it. Where we are permitted to tell you, we will.
5. How long we keep it
- Account and profile — while your account is open.
- Verification images — kept only as long as needed to complete and evidence verification, then deleted.
- Contributions — retained in aggregate. Aggregated Community Intelligence cannot be reversed back to you.
- Diagnostics — short-lived, on our providers’ standard retention.
6. Your choices and rights
- Decline any request. Every invitation to contribute can be turned down, and declining costs you nothing.
- Location. Grant or revoke it at any time in your device settings.
- Notifications. Control them in the app’s notification settings or in your device settings.
- Access and export. Request a copy of your information.
- Correction. Ask us to fix anything inaccurate.
- Deletion. See section 7.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. We apply the choices above to everyone regardless.
7. Deleting your account
You can delete your account and its data from inside the app, at any time, without contacting us: Menu → Account & Privacy → Delete my account. Full instructions, and an email route if you no longer have the app installed, are on the account deletion page.
8. Security
Information is encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is restricted, and contributor records are protected by per-user access rules so that one contributor cannot read another’s. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise; if a breach affects you we will tell you.
9. Children
Kura-Tu is intended for adults eligible to register to vote. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be signalled in the app.
